Paul Smetana 89, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Wilson Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-one years, Irene Belo Smetana in 2009, his brother Peter Smetana, two sisters, Anne Perkoski and Mary Maerkl.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Tom) Apalenek, of Kansas City, KS; two sons, Paul B. Smetana of Apalachin; and Craig (Liz) Smetana of Orlando, FL; grandchildren Daniel and Shawn Apalenek and Megan and Michelle Smetana, a sister, Julia (Michael) Sedlack of Johnson City, nieces, and nephews.
He was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Paul was a graduate of Syracuse University and was a member of Teamsters Local # 693. He enjoyed socializing, hunting, and keeping fit.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 12, 2021, 9-10am at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10am with Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko officiating. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Paul's memory to either St. Michael's Cemetery or Community Outreach Dinner Funds, 296 Clinton St. Binghamton, NY 13905.
