Eugene Peterson, 93, passed away on January 7, 2021 after a brief illness.
Gene was born on May 4, 1927 in Blakely, Pa. and the family moved to Binghamton in the mid 1930's where they finished raising their family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas Petriw and Sophie (Kocan) Petriw. He is survived by his 2 daughters and spouses, 2 grandsons, a sister Helen Pivarnik, and several nephews and nieces.
He attended Binghamton North High School. After high school he enlisted in the US Marine Corp, which he considered one of his proudest moments of his life and served from 1945-1946. After discharge he attended the Triple Cities College of Syracuse (Harpur College), then worked for NYSEG as an engineer's assistant working on layout of transmission substations. He attended Penn State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering in 1955. From 1955-1984 he was employed by IBM and worked his way into upper management positions, the last being Manager of Integrated Circuit Product Design/Test/Development in the Glendale facility in Endicott, NY.
His earlier interests in life were archery, fishing, photography, and participating in an investment club. After early retirement he spent the winters in Sarasota, FL. and began to play golf with his golfing buddies, volunteered for many years at the BC Open, became a master woodworker crafting many beautiful pieces of furniture, was president of the local southern tier Penn State Club, and gave generously to US military and children's charities.
He believed that having a good sense of humor was important to living a good life and enjoyed his time with family, friends, co-workers, and in the Marine Corp.
At the families request, a funeral service will be held in the Spring.
