Mary A. Chebiniak (Klish) of Johnson City unexpectedly fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday evening, December 23, 2020.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Chebiniak; her parents, Theodore and Emilia Klysh; her brothers, Cypryan (Margaret) and Theodore; sister, Emilia and sister in-law Pani Lillian Klysh.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Steven) Ferrante of Vestal and Kim (Mike) Cenova of Gloucester, VA; five grandchildren, William and Julia Ferrante, and Kayla, Marissa, and Ava Cenova; sisters and brothers, Wilma (Lesia) Klysh; Father Mirone Klysh of Winnipeg, Canada; her twin, Nancy (Nicholas) Tarcha; and William (Mary Ann) Klish; sisters in-law Helen Klysh and Jane Ellsworth; close friend Susi Chebiniak, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a retired employee of the I.B.M. Corporation, Endicott and Owego and later Binghamton University where she worked in the Registrar's Office.
A lifelong member of St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Mary enjoyed volunteering for numerous events at the church hall and was an active member of St. Mary's Sisterhood and St. John's Social Club.
Mary took pride in keeping up with the latest styles and pop culture. Her outgoing personality earned her a reputation as an unofficial greeter at church, talking to everyone - no one was a stranger. She loved to shop, read and go to Tioga Downs, but she especially loved her family. Mary looked forward to getting together with her sisters regularly. She will be remembered as a devoted mother who raised her daughters on her own from a young age and a loving Baba who thought the world of her grandchildren. She was blessed to spend so much quality time with all of them - attending dance recitals, school concerts, sporting events and graduations. She always looked forward to summers spent in Virginia with her granddaughters.
Sincere gratitude to Dr. Elizabeth Rosato and Dr. David Sperber for the excellent care they provided to Mary over the last several years. Also, thanks to Cindy Jones for keeping Mary looking fabulous - she always looked forward to her weekly hair appointments.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 9th at 11:00 am, St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1 St. John's Parkway, Johnson City with Rev. Father Ivan Synevskyy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends Saturday 9-11 am at the church. A celebration in honor of her life will be held at a later time.
