Robert W. Balanda, 79, breathed his last breath, while resting, early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024, at his home in Johnson City.
Robert is presently, and always has been, one with our universal Father-Mother God, embraced within Infinite Divine Consciousness, and forever reflected.
Robert was born in 1944 in Johnson City, NY; and graduated from Johnson City High School in 1963; and then attended Broome Technical Community College for a few years, focusing upon Business Administration.
He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mary Balanda; his sister Mary Ann; and his brothers Stephen and Michael.
He is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver Paul; and a nephew, nieces, cousins, and many friends.
Bob was a devoted son and brother to his mother and sister, and a dedicated parishioner and contributor of St. Michael’s Orthodox Church.
He was the owner of Valley Forge Trading Cards & Collectibles in Johnson City, and of the Valley Forge Compilation Store in Endicott.
Bob started out painting homes; and then became interested in: antiques, coins, precious metals, and then all sorts of collectibles; and he often enjoyed: walking, roller skating, roller blading, table tennis, mushroom picking, going to auctions, and traveling. He traveled to: Spain, Austria, Germany, Brazil, and even to Alaska on a cruise... and now... his essence can travel anywhere unhindered. =)
Visitation for Bob will be at St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, at 292 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY, on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 9-10am, followed by a Divine Liturgy, celebrated by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, consider contributing in celebration of his life, to his church, or to any charity of one’s choice.
Services are provided by the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home in Binghamton.
