On June 25th, 2025, Mary Jane Semonco Richards passed peacefully at Good Shepherd Fairview Home. She was predeceased by her father Michael Semonco, her mother Helen Kost Semonco, and several aunts and uncles. Mary Jane is survived by her beloved sister Elizabeth L. Semonco, her beloved brother Michael D. (Carol) Semonco, her cherished nephew Brian M. Semonco, cherished niece Rachel M. Semonco, all of Binghamton, as well as her special cousin Mary Etta (William) Ward of Hamburg, PA and survived by several other cousins. She is also survived by a special friend, Helen Campbell.
After graduating from Binghamton Central High School in 1955, she went to work at Endicott-Johnson as a key punch operator. She also worked at General Electric before going to work at I.B.M. in Endicott where she worked in Accounts Payable until her retirement in 1992, after twenty-five years of service.
When she was young, Mary Jane enjoyed the IBM bus trips to NYC to shop and attend Broadway plays. She honed her craft as a world class shopper with her sister as they replenished their seasonal wardrobes. Mary Jane was always a sharp dresser known for her beautiful wardrobe! She did often refer to herself as a “shopaholic”. Our mother instilled in her children a love of reading and Mary Jane took to it with a vengeance! Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, she scoured our local bookstores searching for the latest in historical romances and suspense novels, always coming home with no less than five books per trip. She really was a “paperback junkie”.
Mary Jane was a role model of perseverance and optimism. She was blessed with a kind heart and generous spirit, always devoted to her family and her dogs, Brandy, Buster and Charlie. As her age caught up with her and her memory began to fade, she found a new life at Good Shepherd Fairview Home, where she made many new friends and discovered a new love, BINGO! Who knew? The family is grateful for the kindness, attention and care given by the nurses, aides and staff at Good Shepherd Fairview Home, especially her nurse Stephanie, who remained at her bedside, holding her hand, comforting her until she slipped away!
In accordance with Mary Jane’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral. If you were privileged to know her, think of her in your prayers and know she would be grateful for your thoughts.
Contributions in Mary Jane’s memory may be to the Animal Care Council 131 Washington Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760 or any other animal support organizations.
