Mykola Valeha, parishioner of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Johnson City, NY, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, November 5, 2025 in Binghamton, NY. He was 101 years old.

Mykola, son of Pavlo and Emilia, was born on January 31, 1924.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Olha, sister, Stefania, his son, Ihor and daughter-in-law, Lyuba, daughter, Nadia, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mykola was predeceased by his brother, Ivan, and son, Pavlo.

A Ukrainian man of strong faith, he was an active member of the movement for Ukrainian Independents. An artist known for his gentle spirit, kindness, generosity and joy, always ready to help those in need. A true peacemaker, he brought comfort and harmony wherever he went.

Mykola will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his loving heart and joyfulness he shared so freely with others. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and those who had a chance to know him.

The family will receive friends at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect St., Binghamton, on Friday, November 14 from 3pm to 6pm where a prayer service (Parastas) will be recited at 5:30pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15 at 9am at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, 230 Ukrainian Hill Road, Johnson City, where a Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Archpriest Teodor B. Czabala, Jr. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
