Stella Marie (South) Czupryna of Binghamton
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Stella Marie South-Czupryna on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Stella was born in Terry Township, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Otto and Martha (Benjamin) Baker. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Emma Reynolds and Irene Chandler and her brother Paul Baker, her first husband, Bruce South and her son, Bruce South, Jr., and her grandson, Brian South.
She is survived by her second husband, Thaddeus (Ted) Czupryna, daughters Nancy Lohmann (George), Donna Cheresnowski (Daniel), and her son, Martin South (Lori), her grandchildren Tish Guzyk (Jay), Kristen Benjamin (Joe), Shanna Crandall (Darren), and Meisha Lohmann (David Benjamin), Jamie South, Melissa Baun, and her greatgrandchildren Kendal, Emery, Everett, Sydney, Orion, Aldon, Taylor, Joshua, Grace, Rachel, Dylan, Brandon.
After the death of her husband, Bruce, Stella attained her LPN degree and worked as a nurse for many years first at the Tioga General Hospital and eventually at the Robert Packer Hospital.
Nothing pleased Stella more than spending time with her extended family who loved her dearly and always enjoyed her wit and dry sense of humor. She loved to cook and was an outstanding baker, delighting us all with her delicious desserts. Her cookie jar was always full of fresh chocolate chip cookies. No one ever left her home hungry or without a hug. Throughout her life she was an expert seamstress, enjoyed knitting, and was an avid reader. After retirement, Stella and Ted could frequently be seen walking several miles each morning. They also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Alaska and throughout the USA.
In addition to her wit, we will all remember her endless energy that “encouraged” those around her to join her and get things done. She showed kindness, and generosity to all of us, as well as to strangers. A celebration of Stella’s life will be determined at a later date, where all who wish to may help us celebrate. Although we will miss her terribly, we know hers was a long, well-lived life where she was loved by many.
Arrangements are by the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, Binghamton.
