Our beloved “Auntie” Helen has been called by our Lord to join her parents, Mary and Michael Kaspryk; brothers, John Kaspryk, Michael (Anna) Dobransky, and Peter (Catherine) Dobransky; sisters, Anne D. Petras and Mary (John) Mihalko; nephews, Robert Dobransky ad Peter M. Dobransky; and niece by marriage, Alexis (John D.) Mihalko.
Helen is survived by her loving sister-in-law, Marion Kaspryk; nephews, John (Becky) Kaspryk, James Kaspryk, John D. Mihalko. David Mihalko, Michael Dobransky, Ronald (Angie) Dobransky and Gary Dobransky; her loving nieces, Carol (Stephan) Wasylko and Jean (Ed) Sankowski; her niece by marriage, Nancy (Peter M.) Dobransky; her great nieces, great nephews, and seven godchildren.
A wonderfully caring and generous person, she devoted her life to giving rather than receiving. Helen worked at Workers Trust Bank, General Electric and IBM Purchasing Department and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
Helen was a faithful and active member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Johnson City. She was a very proud Ukrainian American and loved her ethnic heritage. Helen visited Ukraine on four separate occasions and took part in the celebration of the Millennium of Christianity in Ukraine and the National Remembrance of the Holodomor in Kyiv. She was an original member of St. John’s folk dancers, sang in the church choir, and served on the church board for many years. She was dedicated waitress at St. John’s Memorial Center, a member of St. Mary’s Sisterhood and was often called the “cookbook lady” who sold St. John’s famous cookbooks from the trunk of her car.
Helen had a great zest for traveling and cruising. She visited many foreign countries, walked on the Great Wall of China and hiked on the glaciers in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. She attended many U.O.L. Conventions, Ukrainian festivals and resorts.
Helen felt blessed and was always grateful for her extraordinary nephew, John D. Mihalko, for his love, faithful and excellent care giving which made her life easier; for her godson, Adian Mihalko; for his faithful phone calls and lunches, followed by rides around 25 Miriam Street, St. John’s Cemetery, St. John’s Parkway; for her niece; Carol and her husband, Stephan Wasylko, for all the fond memories collected while visiting them at numerous U.S. Embassies abroad; her nephew, James Kaspryk, for the great cruising experiences; and her nephew, Michael Dobransky for her memorable visit to Austria and the flowers he showered her with over the years.
Helen was also grateful to all her godchildren for their caring love, in particular her special goddaughter; Mary Ann Klish and “Kuma” Anna Lewkowicz for all of their kindness and lovely birthday celebrations throughout the years; her dear friends, Helen, Evie, Mary, Natalka, and Lillian for their treasured friendship and her loving helpers and dependable supporters, David, Gary, Alexander, Nadya and Peter John. Helen loved her family, many friends, and her dear neighbors, Debbie, Doug, Sharon and Bill, and will be sadly missed by all.
Special thanks to Good Shepherd Fairview Home, Assisted Living, Third Floor, and Skilled Care, Second Floor, for all your kind assistance. It was greatly appreciated.
