Francis John Bucek 93, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday morning. July 5, 2026 at Wilson Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph (Elizabeth Rozek) Bucek, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George (Anna Bundga) Halgas, his sister Josephine (Michael) Serbonich, his sister-in-law, Josephine (Tomei) Bucek, his brother-in-law, Edward Halgas, his nephew, Richard Serbonich and his niece, Colleen Halgas.
Fran is survived by his wife of seventy years, Olga (Halgas) Bucek of Binghamton; three daughters, Nadine Bucek (Alex Rosekrans) of Concord, NY; Katherine Bucek of Binghamton; and Susan (Bill) Mumaw, of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren, Joey (Haylea) Cantales of Mooresville, NC; Victoria Cantales of Cummings, GA; and Shawn Cantales of Mooresville, NC; Benjamin Bucek of Kannapolis,NC; William and Jacob Mumaw of Littleton,CO; three step grandchildren, Estrella, Sylar, and Jacqueline Rosekrans allof Concord, NC; his great grandson, Ezra Cantales of Mooresville,NC; nieces and nephews, Michael (Terry) Serbonich, William (Wendy) Serbonich, Rosemary (Michael) Russin, Loren (Carol) Bucek, Robyn Pinkerton, Maureen Rivera, and Deb Serbonich,
He was a graduate of Broome Tech (Associates Degree), Rochester Institute of Technology (Magna Cum Laude) (Bachelor of Science) and University of Vermont (Masters Degree) in Electrical Engineering.
Fran was a former draftsman for General Electric, Johnson City and a retired electrical engineer for I.B.M., Endicott after twenty-six years of service.
He was a very active member of St Michael’s Orthodox Church , serving many offices including a past president.
He was an Army veteran and a member of Johnson City Lodge #970 F. & A.M.
A funeral service will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Saturday at 11am at St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton where the family will receive friends 10am until the time of the service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers kindly consider contributing in Fran’s memory to St. Michael’s Orthodox Church or Cemetery Funds.
