Michael Byce, 88, of Binghamton, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday afternoon, June 13, 2022, at Wilson Hospital.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Anna (Szczupak) Byce, his brother, Steve Byce; two sisters, Maria Hendershot and Sophia Byce; and her sister-in-law, Irene Wilk.
He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Maria Byce; two loving daughters, Dorothy (Tom) Yannetti and Dianne (Joseph) Lomupo all of New Jersey; grandchildren, Gary Yannetti and his fiancée Victoria, Brittany and Thomas Yannetti, Joey and Jordan Lomupo; his sister, Josephine Haake; two brothers, Stanley (Raylene) Byce and Joseph (Barbara) Byce; a sister-in-law, Jane Deryng; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was an active member of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was a retired employee of the Broome Developmental Center and a former construction worker.
Michael was a generous and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend who was always willing to help and fix things.
The family will receive friends at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton on Monday from 4-7 pm where a prayer service (Parastas) will be recited at 6:30pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 9:30am at the funeral home and at 10am at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, 230 Ukrainian Hill Road, Johnson City, where a Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Rev. Teodor B. Czabala, Jr. Burial will be at the parish cemetery, Castle Creek.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Michael's memory to either Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund.
