Anna “Annie” Lucas born November 27, 1919, to George and Anne Puskar Sr. fell asleep in the Lord on March 31, 2022, at the age of 102. Anna was an amazing woman living home independently and was able to celebrate her 100-year-old birthday with friends and neighbors.
Anna was predeceased by her husband of fifty-six years, John Lucas, their son, John “Bob” Lucas, her sisters, Helen (John) Walker, Mary (Michael) Hanchak, and Sue (Stanley) Kordinak, and her brother, George Puskar Jr.
Anna is survived by a special niece, Cindy Walker Crowley and her extended family, Andy Dudash, Helen Ballus, Tim, Jan, and Sara Haun, Scott and Kathy Cramer, Megan Goeres, Jessica Wilcox, Berna and Andrew Quaglia, Jack Lane, and Joe, Val, Kelsey, and Kaleb Kille.
Annie was the “matriarch” of Davis Avenue. She was the caregiver and very generous person to her family, neighbors, and friends.
She was an active member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church. Over the years, Anna contributed her time and talents in countless ways: working in the kitchen where she offered her cooking and baking skills, laundering, and taking care of the altar linens and priest's vestments, assembling, and stapling the church bulletins (600 a week), starting the coffee shop after Sunday Divine Liturgy with her baking delicacies and working with her late husband, John around the church.
She was a retired employee of the GAF Corporation where she excelled in the manufacturing of photographic lenses.
Her love of family, church, neighbors, co-workers, and friends continues to be cherished and passed down to future generations. She appreciated the simpler things in life, reading a book, hanging clothes on the line, baking, sharing recipes or making a conversation with her neighbors, and friends. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known her. Eternal Memory!
A funeral service will be offered by Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Saturday at 9am at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect St. Binghamton where the family will receive friends 8:30am to 9am. Burial will be with her family in St. Michael's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers share a kindness with someone else in Anna's memory.
Kindly share your reflections of Anna on her guestbook at CHOPYAK-SCHEIDER.COM.
