David T. Koast (64) Johnson City, NY passed away November 18, 2021 at Wilson Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. David is predeceased by his parents, Theodore (Ted) and Celia Koast. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Cynthia (Cindy) and Martin Matyas (Johnson City); nephews Nicholas Matyas (Johnson City) and Kevin Matyas (Philadelphia, PA); lifelong family and friend Greg Matyas (Johnson City); stepmother Theresa Koast (Johnson City); as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and his cats Sox and Cuddle Bug.
David graduated from Johnson City High School. He retired from Vestal Central School District after 33 years of service. David was a private person with an exceptionally kind heart. He frequently fostered and opened his home to strays. He loved spending time on his family's "farm" throughout his life. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding his Harley and the NY Giants.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Monday, November 22 at 11:00 am at St Michael's Orthodox Church, 292 Clinton St. Binghamton with the Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko officiating. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Donations in David's memory may be made to St. Michael's Orthodox Church or a charity of one's choice.
