Yevgeniya (Genia) Berezhnytska of Johnson City, 91, passed away peacefully on October 2nd, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband Volodymyr, her parents Maria and Anton Simkiw, brothers Marian, Walter and sister-in-law Mary.
She is survived by her daughter Helen (Halia) and son-in-law, Andrew Czebiniak of Johnson City, her grandchildren Adrian and his wife Emily, Oksana Cline and her husband Kevin, and her great granddaughter, Arianna. Also, her nephews Andy and Mark Simkiw, and niece Lesia Bereznytska.
Genia was born in Kalush, Ukraine. She worked at the Ukrainian UNA Resort (Soyuzivka) in Kerhonkson, NY for ten years after emigrating to America. She was an active and devout parishioner of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church. Genia loved gardening, reading, and cooking. She was a very loving, caring, and generous person, and everyone who knew her cared for her dearly. May God rest her soul, Vichnaya Pamyat !
A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Teodor B. Czabala Jr. on Tuesday, October 5th at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, 230 Ukrainian Hill Road, Johnson City, NY at 10:00 AM, where the family will receive guests from 9:00AM until 10:00AM. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Genia to the Sacred Heart Church Building Fund or Mercy House of the Southern Tier.
