David Wallace Gregory, 92 (aka Dave, Buddy, Daddy, Dad, Grandpa), born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Dunellen, NJ, enjoyed life to the full. His love for God, family, friends, and all of creation was best reflected in his selfless approach to them, and in the hundreds of ingenious drawings and paintings that he did in his lifetime; all of which have been freely given away. He never charged anyone for his artwork which could easily have been sold for a profit. Dave's self-portraits (examples pictured here) were completed in pastel as was most of his paintings. He also used other mediums such as charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, and oil paints.
Dave's wife, Rachel, and their seven children, Paul, Michael, Anne, Dianne, David, Joe, and Mark were very important to him and he sacrificed much for them, putting aside his own interests and recreation to better care for them.
Dave was a hard worker and operated his own dairy farm for many years. He would get up very early in the morning and work until late in the evening running the farm. He taught some of his children how to make coffee and bring him a cup when working, because he often didn't have time for coffee breaks.
The first professional experience Dave had, working with animals, was when he was a young man. He worked on a farm on Long Island; and the farmer was so impressed with his hard work and love of animals that he told Dave he would pay his college tuition if he became a doctor. Dave, however, chose to join the Navy. From the time he was a young child, Dave always dreamt of joining the Navy. Enlisting for four years during the time of the Korean conflict, Dave worked as an Aviation Structural Mechanic for the Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron 2 and the Fighter Squadron-73, at Quonset Point, RI. He was also a second class petty officer.
After selling his dairy farm, Dave began selling farms for a living, working for United Farm agency. He later bought a franchise from Electronic Realty Associates (ERA). Through this franchise, Dave opened ERA Gregory Realty. He and his wife, Rachel, eventually opened offices in four other nearby locations. Later in time, Dave bought another franchise with United Country and opened his own business called United Country Gregory Realty. During the years before his retirement from real estate, Dave and his wife operated offices in Unadilla, Sidney, Walton, Oneonta, and Bainbridge, in central New York. Dave and Rachel also owned apartment buildings in Mt. Upton and Unadilla.
Dave and Rachel now have twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. The twenty-second child, soon to be born, will have the name, David, in the middle, in honor of his great-grandfather.
